Atelier Courbet

The House of Lareymondie loves tradition and craftsmanship and when we discovered Atelier Courbet in New York City, we were in heaven. Atelier Courbet is a shop and gallery all in one. It has beautifully designed products from artisans from all over the world. Curator Melanie Courbet opened her doors in 2013, but before having this remarkable shop with adjacent gallery she was a curator and consultant specializing in contemporary art and design. Exhibitions developed by Melanie have been shown in the New Museum in New York, Le Musee des Arts Decorratifs in Paris, Christie’s and many more. When you walk into Atelier Courbet, you will find extraordinary pieces from all over the world.

Once you go through the doors of Atelier Courbet you will discover beautifully crafted furniture, lighting, table accessories, rugs and textiles. Each piece is crafted and handmade from artisans from Mali, Japan, Sweden, Italy, Tibet, Mongolia, and France. Some of the artisans go as far back as 16th Century and their pieces are still very modern and luxurious today. They are made for those that want quality and appreciate art. This is why The House of Lareymondie is so excited to have discovered such a wonderful place.

Often when people think of luxury goods in New York City they think of 5th Avenue or Madison Avenue, however it is refreshing to head downtown to the borderline of Nolita and Little Italy and find Atelier Courbet in The Brewster Carriage House filled with exquisite objects made from the finest materials. You can get away from the hustle and bustle of Midtown and the Upper Eastside, stroll down Mott Street and find a tranquil space filled with everyday pieces to statement pieces. It is an art gallery where you can experience the art and take it home with you. “The tightly curated selection encompasses one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces.” It is a place worth visiting if you want to discover new artisans and unique designs.

Stazia Loren Vintage Jewelry

Once you meet Stacy Smith the curator and owner of Stazia Loren, you want to hang out with her all day. Not only does she have one of the best vintage couture jewelry in New York City, she is super cool. Stacy has spent years traveling the world as a management executive in the entertainment industry and most recently decided to follow her passion for jewelry and fashion. As a child Stacy would visit her grandmother’s home and play with her extended collection of jewelry and pretend she was attending a royal ball. She never forgot about those moments, in fact, she is a collector of antique crowns. She has a beautiful cabinet full of crowns that she can wear everyday and pretend to be a queen if she wanted to.

When we walked into her salon we entered a room filled with luxurious artifacts. There was a Chanel necklace here, a Christian Lacroix earrings there, a Saint Laurent bracelet over in the other side and numerous of other great designers. We wanted to open the cabinets and try every single piece. Then once we thought we were done with the cabinets we saw tables filled with beautifully displayed jewelry. We felt like a kid in a candy store. We wanted it all! Stacy not only collects and sells these vintage jewelry pieces, but she also has vintage handbags like Hermes in great colors. And just when we thought we found the right spot for vintage jewelry that is both classic and trendy, we find out that Stacy is currently creating her own jewelry line as well. We see some of the samples of what’s to come and we can’t believe our eyes. Some gold cuffs, chain necklaces, and fun chokers. We are excited to discover Stazia Loren in New York and also meet a strong, independent woman like Stacy following her dreams. She is woman you want to meet and we guarantee that you will fall in love with all of her pieces like we did.

Jeff Koons at the Whitney

Jeff Koons one of America’s most controversial and influential artists is on view at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and it’s not to be missed. It’s has nearly filled the entire museum and it’s one of his first major presentations in New York. The museum will feature over 150 objects that he has created throughout his 30 year career span. It will be divided chronologically and features most of his iconic works. Fourteen of his popular series will be seen daily by museum - goers. Some people call his work pop art and it certainly creates a conversation.

We are inspired by an artist like Jeff Koons because he doesn’t shy away from the exploration of an object. He looks at something and finds it unique in its own way and creates his own interpretation. But if you really look at the object, besides the “political” or “cultural” statement, you will see his attention to detail. From the Balloon Dog that is made of steel, yet has the wrinkles of a real balloon to the Life Boat that is so heavy, yet looks like it can float on water. So if you have an opportunity to go to the Whitney Museum, take a good look at the fine details, the corners, the wrinkles, the color, the position of an object; they are all essential to the piece. This is what inspires The House of Lareymondie to continue creating fine boots and shoes, it’s all in the details.
